Texan politician and the first Lieutenant Governor of Texas (1798-1865) who served under Governor James P. Henderson. Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “A. C. Horton,” one page, 15 x 13, July 28, 1846. Governor Horton grants Eleazer Higgins and his heirs a tract of land containing "Four hundred and forty acres…in Milam County." Signed at the conclusion by Horton as governor. Framed with a recorder's document to an overall size of 16.5 x 17.5; backing of frame has a window for viewing reverse of document. In very good condition, with overall rippling, and scattered staining. A rare land grant from the early days of Texas statehood.
