Large color matte-finish 5.75 x 8 photo three-quarter length portrait of Prince Charles dressed in a suit and tie, affixed to an 8 x 11 mount, signed on the mount in fountain pen, "Charles, 1980." In fine condition, with a trimmed right edge to the mount.
1980 was the year that Charles first started to take (Princess) Diana seriously as a love interest. At the time he was dating Diana’s sister, Sarah. Charles and Diana apparently sat together on a bale of hay at a barbecue, discussing the assassination of the Prince’s uncle, Lord Mountbatten, by the IRA the previous year. It appears that a romance grew out of this exchange, with Diana accompanying Charles that same year to both Sandringham and Balmoral. Their relationship resulted in a proposal in 1981.
