Description

A rare check as JFK, gearing up for his White House run, mistakenly remits a double payment to Pitney-Bowes

Rare First National City Bank of New York business check, 8.25 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Kennedy, payable to Pitney-Bowes for $39.60, October 8, 1959. Impressively archivally double cloth matted with a portrait of JFK and letter from Pitney-Bowes revealing Kennedy had already paid the invoice, resulting in the return of the offered document. Framed to an overall size of 24 x 17.5 by Gallery of History. In fine condition, with a few small staple holes at the upper left hand corner and top edge. Kennedy, at the time a junior senator from Massachusetts, sent this payment as he prepared his bid for the 1960 presidential election. Kennedy checks are very rare, with this exemplar dating to the eve of the biggest announcements of his political career. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
