Two checks: rare Johnson City Bank check, 7.75 x 2.75, filled out in type and signed “Lyndon B. Johnson” as president, payable to Mr. E. D. Spellman - Tax Assessor - Collector, Burnet County for $14.84, October 2, 1967; and a Johnson City Bank check, 6 x 2.5, filled out and signed “Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson,” payable to the Madison Hotel for $102.16, April 20, 1971. Archivally double cloth matted with portraits of both the president and first lady and framed to an overall size of 24.25 x 20. Expected cancellation stamps (showing through from the reverse on the LBJ check and touching Lady Bird’s signature on the front) and a vertical fold and staple hole on the president’s check, otherwise in fine condition. LBJ’s check, written as president, likely pertains to his automobile tax. A Johnson signed check is rare in any form—even more so when dating to his administration!
