Razor-sharp businessman Edison dismisses a customer’s improbable claim as a lie: “Don’t accept any such statements from a purchaser, or we will being doing business without profit”

ALS in pencil signed “Edison,” three pages, 5 x 8, no date. In part: “You will remember when you told me what the Amer Railway Express man stated to you that he got a life of 3 yrs that I said it was a lie. You have in your office a 3 yr record of the Amer Express Co. got from their garrage [sic] supt…they were down & out, the records show [?] of hundreds of batteries - Assuming 25 cycles equals one month this government battery had to be washed & new seperators [sic] put in…at the end of 20 months the battery was down & out 50% capacity. Don’t accept any such statements from a purchaser, or we will being doing business without profit.” In very fine condition, with typical toning, staple at top border, red pencil notation in another hand.
