Commodore in the US Navy (1772-1838) who served in the Quasi-War with France, both Barbary Wars in North Africa, and the War of 1812 with Britain, and played a major role in the development of the standards, customs, and traditions of the American navy. Autograph endorsement signed “Approved, Jno. Rodgers,” below a letter written to Commodore Morris by William LeBaron, one page, 8.25 x 9.75, September 19, 1822. LeBaron writes, in full: "I accept the offer of Forty five cents per foot for the surplus mast pieces and shall request Gen'l Upham to call at the Navy Yard for the bills." Endorsed at the conclusion by Rodgers. In very good to fine condition, with scattered foxing, and seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf.
