Description

American aviator (1895–1970) who set the east-to-west transcontinental speed record in 1930. TLS signed “Roscoe,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Roscoe Turner Aeronautical Corp. letterhead, November 14, 1962. Letter answering an admirer’s questions. In part, “In the old days, every flight was pretty much of an experimental flight. You always went up wondering what might happen next. There were two reasons for this thinking. First, we never knew when the motor was going to quit and secondly, we were always trying to find out what new things we could do with the flying machines. Today we scarcely ever think of the motor quitting, we know what the machine will do, and we know the limitations under which we must fly. Of course, in the old days we had no limitations, we could do whatever we thought we were big enough to do.” In fine condition, with some mild toning and a staple hole near top left. R&R COA.
