Argentine lieutenant general and politician (1895–1974) who was thrice elected President of Argentina. The most important and controversial Argentine politician of the 20th century, he founded Peronism, which is still one of the major forces in that country’s politics; Peron was praised by the likes of Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, and Che Guevara. Meaningful ALS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, July 30, 1961. Handwritten letter to Juan Atilio Bramuglia, who had been Peron’s foreign minister and considered 'the most eminent and talented cabinet member' of his first term, sent from Madrid while Peron was exiled in Spain. In full (translated): "Our friend Ballinas has brought me your letter in which you narrate me the contingencies of your long trip through the Old World and I thank you for the wise observations, which your kindness makes me a participant of. The friend Engineer Iturbe has been here with me for a few days, and we have spoken at much length, as I hope he has already told you. Him being the Maestro Leader of today, has the word, and I aspire he performs it with the greatest success. Ballinas will be able to recount to you, how we are doing in these latitudes. I also got a visit from Fito, and we talked one evening at home. Quite rightly, we are becoming old!" In fine condition. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope, addressed in Peron's own hand.
Peron refers to Engineer Alberto Iturbe, who served as his Minister of Transport until the coup that overthrew Peron in 1955. He later headed the Peronist Movement, while it was outlawed in Argentina. Peron's relevant letters in full-autograph form are very uncommon.
