Belgian-born American author and illustrator (1898-1962) best known for his now-classic series of Madeleine children's books. Scarce TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, July 18, 1958. Letter to Miss von Micquel, making important revisions to his books' dust jackets. In part: "On the English adetitions dust jacket of The High World, on the back thereof appears a brief authors biography. I hope to catch your edition in time to get rid of it. I find biographies of authors ever so tiresome. Please make it a rule never to have them on any of my books. If there is nothing else to put on the back, use one of the illustrations from the book. In this case I would think the Stag, the large one on the title page with one color all over would be best." He adds a signed postscript, in full: "Please issue a general order to this effect no Biography, for either grownup or juvenile readers, wrap me in Mystery." In fine condition, with a small piece of cardstock affixed to the reverse. A highly significant, desirable letter from the beloved author and illustrator.
