Description

Unused admission pass for a band or chorus member performing during the American football game held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on August 8, 1932, 5.5 x 2.5, issued for Gate E8, Tunnel 19, serial number “2339,” reading: "Not transferable—for use of member of official band or chorus only." In fine condition.

American football was featured as a demonstration sport for the Xth Olympiad in Los Angeles. On the evening of August 8, 1932, seniors from three Western universities (Cal, Stanford, and USC) were matched against those from the East Coast's ‘Big Three’ (Harvard, Yale, and Princeton). In front of 60,000 spectators at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the West team won by a score of 7–6.

The official report notes: ‘The massed Olympic bands and the Olympic Chorus formed a large white block in the seats at one side of the Stadium similar to the 'rooting' section which has become a tradition of American Football, and the songs of the institutions represented were played and sung. Between halves the Olympic Band staged a musical marching spectacle on the held, coupled with massed singing by the Chorus.’
