Description

Ticket stub for the start of the equestrian dressage events of the Munich 1972 Summer Olympics, measuring 5.75 x 4, which started on September 5, 1972 and resumed on September 7th, following the 34-hour suspension of the Games due to the tragic Munich massacre. Encapsulated and graded by PSA as "STUB EX-MT 6."

The 1972 Munich Olympics were tragically overshadowed by the 'Munich massacre,' in which the Palestinian group Black September took 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team hostage on the morning of September 5th. Despite attempts to negotiate and rescue the hostages, all were killed during a botched rescue operation at Fürstenfeldbruck airbase. The International Olympic Committee ordered the competitions to resume after a 34-hour suspension and a memorial service, with IOC President Avery Brundage famously declaring, 'The Games must go on!' The equestrian dressage events began at the Dressuranlage Nymphenburg on September 5th as the drama was unfolding, were paused during the suspension of the Games, and resumed on September 7th.
