Two items signed by steel magnates: a TLS signed “C. M. Schwab,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, May 31, 1927, to noted mining engineer John Hays Hammond, in part: "I am glad you were pleased with the luncheon given in honor of John Markle. He is a fine old gentleman and it was deserved at the hands of the Pennsylvanians"; and an ANS in pencil by J. G. A. Leishman, signed with his initials, "J. G. L.,” on an official card as American ambassador to Turkey, 2 x 3.5, circa 1901, in full: ”To Mr. Russel H. Millward, Hope to have the pleasure of meeting you.” In overall fine condition.
Charles Schwab (1862–1939) was an American steel magnate whose Bethlehem Steel became the second largest steel maker in the United States, and one of the most important heavy manufacturers in the world.
John George Alexander Leishman (1857–1924) served as president of Carnegie Steel, subdued the assailant in Henry C. Frick's assassination attempt, and served as U.S. Ambassador to Italy, Germany, and elsewhere.
