Rare, early ink signature, "J. Madison, Jr.,” on an off-white 6.25 x 2 slip clipped from the close of an autograph letter by Madison, evidently written to his father, retaining the closing lines: "I have rec'd no letter from you since my last. With my dutiful regards to my mother, I remain yr. affec. son." In fine condition, with a light block of toning from prior display. Autographs from this period of Madison's life are uncommon—he would soon drop the "Jr." suffix from his autograph upon the death of his father in 1801.
