Well-regarded Russian composer (1865-1936) best known for his lush orchestral works, including nine symphonies and concerti for various instruments. ALS in Russian, signed “A. Glazunov,” one page both sides, 5.5 x 8.5, Leningrad State Conservatory letterhead, March 4, 1926. Handwritten letter to "Mr. Butnikoff," in full (translated): "I am extremely grateful to the administration of the Athens Conservatory and to you as well for the highly complimentary invitation to go to Athens during the 1926–27 season and conduct two concerts of my own works. I am terribly sorry, but at the present time it is hard for me to agree even in principle. Within the past few months my health has deteriorated considerably. The doctors have determined I have varicose veins, which requires prolonged treatment, and there has been no improvement as of yet. As soon as I am feeling better, I will give you my final answer." In fine condition.
