Member of the House of Habsburg (1503-1564) who ruled as Holy Roman Emperor from 1558 until his death, a reign characterized by conflict with the Ottoman Empire and wars of religion between Catholics and Protestants. Uncommon manuscript DS in German, signed “Ferdinand,” one page, 16.5 x 12, dated 1534. Untranslated official document issued at Prague Castle, boldly and crisply signed at the conclusion by Ferdinand I. Addressing Cardinal Bernardo Clesio (1484–1539), a president of Ferdinand's Privy Council and chancellor of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I, Ferdinand announces to the estates, to the nobility, and to the towns and common people of Upper Austria that a general assembly ('Landtag') will be convened at Linz on Monday after Pentecost. The paper seal once affixed to the reverse is detached but present. In fine condition, with a seal-related stain to the middle.
