U.S. Navy admiral (1887–1947) who commanded the Fast Carrier Task Force in the Pacific during the latter part of World War II. Scarce TLS signed “M. A. Mitscher,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Navy Department (Office of the Chief of Naval Operations) letterhead, January 5, 1946. Letter to autograph collector Dominick Fabian, in full: “I had not forgotten your recent letter, and I am very pleased to acknowledge your expression of good wishes. Naturally, it is gratifying to receive congratulations, but I accept such expressions in behalf of the men and officers who manned the ships and flew the planes of Task Force 58. Those are the boys who are deserving of our gratitude for winning the Navy's victories over the Japanese. As time goes on I believe you will find that our plans for conversion to peace time activities will develop to the ultimate benefit of the countries of the entire world.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
