Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 14.75 x 17.75, July 23, 1812. President Madison appoints John E. Wool as "a Captain in the Regiment of Infantry in the services of the United States." Signed at the conclusion in ink by President James Madison, and countersigned by Secretary of War William Eustis. The white paper seal affixed at the top remains mostly intact. In very good condition, with heavy intersecting folds, overall soiling, edge toning, and fading to the difficult-to-discern signature, particularly the very light last name.
