Description

Union general and onetime commander of the Army of the Potomac (1824-1881); the distinctive whiskers he sported gave rise to the word 'sideburns.' Early Civil War–dated ADS, signed “A. E. Burnside, Col. Comdg.,” one page, 5 x 3, June 6, 1861. Handwritten pass issued at "Camp Sprague," in full: "Pass Sergt. Crandall till eleven o'clock." In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and soiling.
