Maine-born Union major general (1828-1914) who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his defense of Little Round Top at Gettysburg. Partly-printed DS in Latin, one page, 14.75 x 19.5, July 6, 1869. Untranslated diploma from Bowdoin College, headed “The President and Trustees of Bowdoin College, in the Republic of Maine,” which acknowledges that George Franklin Webber has graduated with a degree of Doctor of Medicine. Signed at the conclusion by Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain as college president, and countersigned by eight other members of the faculty. The lower right bears its original golden seal. Impressively cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 33 x 29.25. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light foxing, and light fading to the signature.
