Anglo-Irish soldier (1724-1808) who served as governor general of British North America and commanded troops during the American Revolution; he was created 1st Baron Dorchester in 1786. Manuscript DS, signed “Dorchester,” one page, 7.25 x 8.5, August 16, 1786. Pay order, in part: "Mr. Adair will be so good as Pay Thirty Guineas for a Picture of Miss Carleton, to Mr. Stewart in New Burlington St. and Deliver, or cause it to be deliver'd to the Order of Mrs. Richardson." Attractively cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and biographical plaque to an overall size of 24.5 x 21. In fine condition.
