Admiral (1813-1891) who helped improve the Navy as the superintendent of the US Naval Academy after significant service in the American Civil War. ALS, one page both sides, 5 x 8, September 6, 1875. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in part: "Will you please send me a proof of each picture. I want it to send to the printer to show him where to place them. Please send without delay. As soon as the pictures are finished send them by Express to J. Munsell Publisher and Printer Albany N. York…the printer says he will want the pictures in four weeks from to day but sooner if possible." In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned hardcover book entitled "A Memorial of David Dixon Porter from the city of Boston," published in 1891, exhibiting moderate to heavy overall wear.
