Union major general (1822–1901) who fought at Antietam and Second Bull Run. Porter was court-martialed in 1863 for disobeying an order from Gen. Pope to attack but was exonerated in 1878. Neat ink signature, "F. J. Porter,” on an off-white 2.75 x 2 slip clipped from the close of a letter. In fine condition. Accompanied by a small portrait of Porter.
