American author (1903-1987) best known for the popular novels God's Little Acre and Tobacco Road. Two items: a vintage semi-glossy 2.5 x 3 portrait of the author, neatly signed in fountain pen, "Erskine Caldwell"; and a brief TLS, one page, 7 x 4.5, personal letterhead, August 25, 1957, in full: "It was, and is, a pleasure!" In overall very good to fine condition, with an old tape stain to the top edge of the letter.
