Description

American financier (1786-1844) and president of the Bank of the United States. Manuscript DS, signed “N. Biddle, Pres't,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, August 30, 1838. Document appointing a proxy, in part: "Know all men by these presents, that We, The Resident Directors and Company of the Bank of the United States, the owners of four hundred shares in the Capital Stock of the Warren Bridge Company…do hereby constitute and appoint William A. Irvine, Esquire, of Warren County, Pennsylvania, our attorney and agent for us…as the owners of said specified shares in the capital stock of said company to vote as our Proxy." Neatly signed at the conclusion by Nicholas Biddle as president of the Bank of the United States. Impressively cloth-matted and framed with three unused Bank of the United States checks, a portrait, and plaque to an overall size of 34.25 x 24.25. In fine condition.
