Description

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 14 x 9, May 20, 1830. President Jackson grants “Jonas Spangler assignee of Thomas Taylor & Cyrus Spink” a tract of land “containing one hundred and sixty acres…to be sold at Wooster.” Signed at the conclusion by Andrew Jackson and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office George Graham. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. In fine condition.

Jonas Spangler (1778-1846) moved with his wife Hannah Rhodearmel, children and other relatives from the Armagh, Pennsylvania, 200 miles westward to the inviting but challenging frontier of Plain Township in Wayne County, Ohio, in 1819 for better farmland. He worked two adjoining tracts of land totaling 298 acres located about seven miles west of Wooster.
