Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 14 x 9.25, May 23, 1822. President Monroe grants a parcel of land to Aaron Kinsey of Jefferson County, Ohio, "containing Sixty one Acres, and Sixty and a half-hundredths of an Acre, of the Lands directed to be sold at Marietta." Neatly signed at the conclusion in ink by President James Monroe, and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office Josiah Meigs. The white paper seal affixed at the lower left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with light soiling and scattered staining, and a partial edge split to the horizontal fold.
Aaron Kinsey (1786-1833) was a native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, whose family moved 300 miles west to Jefferson County, Ohio, around 1803. They were part of a Quaker community. Many families moved west around this time for better farmland. Aaron married Sarah Butler in 1809, and they had at least six children.
