Description

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 12.5 x 10.5, November 8, 1817. President Monroe grants John Marvin, “late a Private in Reach’s Artillery a certain Tract of Land containing One hundred and sixty Acres…in the Territory of Illinois.” Signed at the conclusion by President James Monroe and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office Josiah Meigs. The beige paper seal remains affixed to the lower left, and the lower right bears its uncommon General Land Office tag offering “a Map of the Military Bounty Lands" for a price of one dollar. Cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plate to an overall size of 19.25 x 24. In fine condition.
