Very rare vintage glossy 5.5 x 3.5 Brel postcard photo of the Beatles, signed beautifully on the reverse in black ballpoint by John Lennon, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney, and in blue ballpoint by Ringo Starr. The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained at the London Palladium on October 13, 1963, when the Beatles made their debut appearance on Val Parnell’s television program ‘Sunday Night at the London Palladium.’ The Beatles performed ‘From Me To You,’ ‘I’ll Get You,’ ‘She Loves You,’ and ‘Twist and Shout’ in front of a TV audience of 15 million viewers. To the delight of press photographers, dozens of fans blocked the street outside, a situation that made for front-page-ready pictures and stories for the next morning paper. The word ‘Beatlemania’ was used by Fleet Street writers to describe the scenes. In very good to fine condition, with some ceasing to the photo side, and light soiling to the signed side.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and a letter of provenance from a prior owner: “My Uncle James Perry…was a childhood friend of Sir Bruce Forsythe…Uncle James and his son Clifford Perry, who was a year older than me, were invited by Sir Bruce to a show Sunday Night at The London Palladium when he was the Compère. The Beatles were on that night, and after the show, Sir Bruce took them backstage to meet The Beatles. This could have been the show on the 13th October 1963, the timeline fits our ages.”
