Important Italian composer (1792-1868) who became one of the seminal figures in the history of opera with such repertoire staples as The Barber of Seville and William Tell. Scarce 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Rossini at his desk by Numa Blanc & Cie., Paris, signed and inscribed on the mount in ink, "Offert a son Altesse la Princesse Bacciochi, L'Invalide Rossini, 1863.” In fine condition. Rossini had taught music to Princess Elisa Napoléone Baciocchi, the niece of Napoleon Bonaparte, in Bologna in 1815—a fascinating association piece.
