Description

"My adventures as a writer would be hard to believe!”- content-rich handwritten letter from Anais Nin, mentioning her novels House of Incest, Winter of Artifice, and Cities of the Interior

ALS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, November 30, 1961. Handwritten letter to Thomas Digenti, in full: “I sent you a copy of Seduction of the Minotaur. I would like to help you with your bibliography, but alas years, dates, prices are not the kind of things I remember accurately — I believe you could get all this information from Mr. Nyholm, librarian at University of Evanston, Evanston, Illinois, as they have a complete collection of all my books and manuscripts. As far as I know no one has made a bibliography. You might write to Felix Pollak at Rare Books Dept. who knows many facts about my works.

D. H. Lawrence was recently reprinted in England by Neville Armstrong.

Gemor Press printed one edition of Winter of Artifice handset by me, 2 editions of Under a Glass Bell, one handset by me and which has engravings at beginning and at end of stories, one linotyped, engravings only beginning of stories. Gemor had to do distributing of books.

Diary number one was never published. Gemor Press was dissolved due to indifference and lack of cooperation of bookshops because Gemor Press did not advertise enough or get enough reviews (same problem with Swallow, newspapers won’t review books not widely publicized and bookshops won’t carry books not expensively advertised.)

Etre Etoilique was not a separate publication, it was an Essay in one of Miller’s books — now included in Miller Reader.

I never made drawings except for Diary One (age 11) they will appear when Diary does.

I can send you an autographed Cities of the Interior (either paperbound or hardcover).

The Centaur Press distributed House of Incest for a while but a Robert Duncan pocketed the money - had to recover left over copies.

My adventures as a writer would be hard to believe!” In fine condition, with three files to the left edge. Accompanied by the original hand-addressed mailing envelope. Nin came to the attention of American readers when Henry Miller wrote a word portrait of her called 'Un Etre Etoilique' ('A Luminous Being').
