Description

Lot of uncommon materials pertaining to the US Navy during the World War I era, including: a first edition hardcover of The U.S.S. Great Northern During the War: The Fastest Navy Troop Transport by D. K. Romig, hardcover, published in 1919; a U.S.S. Great Northern Christmas card booklet from 1918, featuring a roster of the ship's crew and officers; a pocket-sized 'Army and Navy Edition' of the "New Testament (Douay Version)," published in 1918 by the National Catholic War Council; a softcover pocket-sized edition of "The Recruit's Handy Book," published in 1913 by the Naval Institute, Annapolis; a softcover pocket-sized edition of "The Bluejacket's Manual, Part One [Second Edition]," published in 1915 by the Franklin Printing Company, Baltimore; and three original vintage 7 x 5 photographs from 1919, two showing the USS Idaho and one showing the captured German submarine UB-88. In overall very good to fine condition, with wear and fading to covers of the pocket handbooks. Accompanied by an English translation of German U-boat commander Otto Weddigen's article, "The Submarine's First Triumph."
