Description

Rare original press folder for “Dallas Market Center,” released in preparation for President John F. Kennedy’s visit to the Trade Mart as part of his presidential luncheon on November 22, 1963, which is accompanied by a laminated original gold-colored ticket to the 'Texas Welcome Dinner' presented in honor of President John F. Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, number D14863, 4 x 2.5, to be held later that night at the Municipal Auditorium in Austin at 7:30 pm. The folder, 9.75 x 12.5, contains several typed information sheets related to Dallas Market Center, an original glossy 8 x 10 photo of the Trade Mart (with reverse caption detached but present), and an unusual typed ‘meal’ sheet, 8.5 x 6.75, presumably originating from the Trade Mart, which reads: “Kennedy (Party), [21 people] 7:30, Boneless Chicken Breasts... $2.75, Tossed Salad, Baked Potato, Please Have Table Prepared...And Ready to Serve.” Both sides of the sheet feature handwritten notations. In overall very good to fine condition, with wear and stains to the folder and ‘meal’ sheet, and creases to the photo.

President Kennedy was en route to the Dallas Trade Mart for lunch when shots rang out over Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963. That evening, he was scheduled to speak at the 'Texas Welcome' dinner, a fundraiser organized by the State Democratic Executive Committee on the final stop of the president's tour of Texas. With the president assassinated, neither event would take place.
