Complete issue of The Gentleman's Magazine from August 1775, 5.25 x 8.25, printed in London by Sylvanus Urban. The periodical contains several significant texts related to the Revolutionary War: the 'Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms,' adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 6, 1775; reporting on the Battle of Bunker Hill, including a memorial poem dedicated to Lieutenant Bard of the 35th Regiment, who was killed; and a piece announcing that "the Congress have appointed George Washington, Esq. of Virginia, Generalissimo of the American forces." Disbound from a larger volume and in very good condition, with separation to several of the later pages at the spine.
