Description

Complete issue of The Gentleman's Magazine from June 1776, 5.25 x 8.25, printed in London by Sylvanus Urban. The periodical contains several significant texts related to the Revolutionary War: resolutions passed by the Continental Congress on March 23, 1776, authorizing privateers to engage against British ships, as "the Petitions of the United Colonies to the King, for the redress of great and manifold grievances, have not only been rejected, but treated with Scorn and contempt"; a proclamation published by George Washington on his taking possession of Boston; and a letter by Washington to Lord Sterling, announcing the retreat of Howe's army from Boston and warning that New York may be their next object. Disbound from a larger volume and in very good to fine condition.
