Early leather-bound autograph album, 6 x 9, containing over 120 ink signatures of notable American politicians from the mid-to-late 19th century, which is highlighted by bold signatures of future American presidents James K. Polk and Franklin Pierce, famed Texas Governor Sam Houston, and Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The album also contains numerous signatures of members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives, as well as a variety of figures from the Civil War. Other names include: George M. Dallas, William L. Marcy, Charles Sumner, Hamilton Fish, Edward Everett, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Henry Dodge, Robert McClelland, Robert Charles Winthrop, James Guthrie, James C. Dobbin, Jared W. Williams, Roger Sherman Baldwin, and many more. Includes a secretarial signature of James Buchanan. The autograph belonged to Maggie Mallory, the daughter of Stephen Russell Mallory, who served as the Confederate States Secretary of the Navy. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light soiling and toning, and several pages with excised portions.
