Scottish missionary and explorer (1813-1873) who 'disappeared' on an expedition to find the source of the Nile only to be famously rediscovered by Henry M. Stanley several years later. Ink signature, "Ever affectionately yours, David Livingstone,” on an off-white 8 x .75 slip clipped from the close of a letter; preceding Livingstone's signature are the words, "off if he lives. My wife is somewhere south but I don't know where." On the reverse are two additional lines in Livingstone's hand, including the word "Africa": "which would do good to themselves, to Africa, and ultimately to England by relieving." In fine condition.
