TLS, one page, 7 x 9, The Attorney General letterhead, May 12, 1961. Letter to the Hon. Howard McGrath, in full: "Many thanks for your letter of April 21st on behalf of Mr. Don C. Miller who is interested in being considered for appointment as United States District Judge for the Northern District of Ohio. I am sure you know how much we appreciate your recommendation in this matter. Certainly Mr. Miller will receive every consideration." In fine condition, with light toning from prior display. The judge in question, Don C. Miller, is far more famous for his exploits on the gridiron than in the courtroom—he formed one-quarter of Notre Dame's famous 'Four Horsemen' backfield as part of Knute Rockne's legendary 1924 football squad. Miller went on to practice law, serving as a United States Attorney from 1941-1953, and a United States Bankruptcy Court judge from 1965-1977.
