Union general (1813-1864) who was killed by Confederate sharpshooters at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, ironically while berating his men for hiding from enemy fire. Uncommon 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of John Sedgwick in uniform, with just his collar showing. Identified on the reverse in pencil in an unknown hand. In fine condition, with clipped corner tips.
