Vellum manuscript document in Latin, one page, 18 x 13, [September 1585]. Papal brief emanating from Pope Sixtus V, appointing Jean du Bec as commendatory abbot of the Abbey of Pontron in the diocese of Angers. Signed in the lower margin by several officials. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, a few stains, and a section clipped out of the right edge. A significant figure of the Counter-Reformation, Pope Sixtus V is remembered for excommunicating both Queen Elizabeth I of England and King Henry IV of France.
