American banker, art collector, and philanthropist (1861-1944) whose stock brokerage firm, J. S. Bache & Co., was one of the top brokerage houses in the United States. Partly-printed DS, signed “J. S. Bache,” one page, 10.75 x 7, June 10, 1886. Stock certificate issued to J. S. Bache for 100 shares in the Oregon and Transcontinental Company, endorsed on the reverse by Bache to transfer the shares; the front is signed at the bottom by Elijah Smith as the company's president. The certificate boasts a handsome vignette of Native American Indians observing a train in a valley. The original receipt remains affixed to the left side. In fine condition.
