Description

Prolific 'Golden Age' film director (1890-1987) known for such classics as Anna Christie, Anna Karenina, National Velvet, and The Yearling; he directed Joan Crawford in six films, and Greta Garbo in seven. TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, November 23, 1925. Letter to columnist Jimmy Starr, in part: "I wish I were capable of expressing my great thanks to you for the many wonderful kindnesses you have extended me in the past few weeks. The things you have written of me and my work have set a high objective ahead of me in my film work—the goal to always try and live up to your estimate of me." In fine condition, with slightly irregular toning. This letter dates to two weeks after the premiere of The Eagle, directed by Brown and starring Rudolph Valentino.
