Unusual autograph manuscript, signed "G. Clemenceau," two pages, 7.25 x 10, no date but circa October 1897. Clemenceau's handwritten draft for a piece published under the title 'L'Antichambre' in L'Aurore on October 19, 1897, beginning (translated): "It is the return of the House. Through the organ of Mr. Méline and Mr. Barthou, the government let us know that it was happy with him. Usual business. The President of the Republic himself casts a satisfied look on his person. I would conclude that France is happy, in the remarkable silence of the keys to the opposition - despite the late days of the last hour - if M. Poincaré, former Minister, had not made a rather harsh criticism of the government majority to whom we owe such beautiful things." In very good condition, with blue editorial notations to the text, and both pages sliced and reassembled with tape on the reverse.
