Cooke seeks capital for "some scheme which looks to me as safe & profitable"

ALS, one page, 5.75 x 9, personal letterhead, February 3, 1881. Handwritten letter to A. J. Barney, in part: "Col. Groom of Kentucky, but now of Montana, is seeking aid for some scheme which looks to me as safe & profitable & which he will explain to you. Perhaps you may amongst yr frds East or in Chicago know of some one who will aid in furnishing the…capital." In fine condition.
