Description

Brewer (1836-1904) who founded the company which, in the 1890s, introduced the 'Blue Ribbon' brand, the 'beer that made Milwaukee famous.' Significant partly-printed DS, signed twice, “Fred. Pabst,” one page, 10 x 7, May 20, 1873. Stock certificate for one share in the Phillip Best Brewing Company issued to Frederick Pabst, signed on the attached receipt and endorsed on the reverse by the 'Blue Ribbon' brewer. Also signed in ink by Emil Schandein as vice-president of the company and Charles Best, Jr., as secretary. In fine condition. Pabst was the son-in-law of Philip Best, and having purchased half the company in the 1860s rose to be president of the corporation in 1873. By 1874, the Phillip Best Brewing Co. was the nation's largest brewer. Later, he changed the company's name to the Pabst Brewing Company.
