Thackeray relays a stubborn response to a potential caretaker, citing an “intention of never being happy if she goes to live with you"

ALS signed “W. M. Thackeray,” one page, 4.25 x 6.75, May 5. Letter handwritten from Kensington, in full: "Mrs. Onslow has just announced her intention of never being happy if she goes to live with you. God forbid that under such circumstances you should be called upon to try and console her. I regret very much the trouble w'h you have had regarding her." Framed with an engraving bearing a facsimile autograph to an overall size of 10 x 8. In very good to fine condition, with light soiling and staining, and a short slice to the lower right.
