Description

Important British botanist and explorer (1817-1911) who was Charles Darwin's closest friend; he served as director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, for 20 years. ALS signed “Jos. D. Hooker,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 3.5 x 5.25, no date. Handwritten letter to English botanist and taxonomist Maxwell T. Masters, in part: "I am glad to find that you do not object to undertake the duty at the Royal Institution. I saw Dr. Daubery two days ago, & he has no objection whatever, & on the contrary will be glad to place every facility in your way…you may I think consider the matter settled as far as he is concerned." In fine condition.
