Archive of eleven TLSs signed "J. Edgar Hoover," each one page, Federal Bureau of Investigation letterhead, dating from 1954 to 1968. All to FBI agent Maurice J. White, who was notably assigned to the team of special agents that investigated the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In addition to the eleven signed letters, there is an unsigned personnel file copy of a letter from J. Edgar Hoover to J. Gordon Shanklin, recognizing those who "contributed in such a splendid fashion to the investigation of the assassination of the President." Among the signed letters are a warning to "carefully comply with all regulations and requirements" concerning recordkeeping; praise for acting with "exemplary decisiveness and initiative upon learning of the theft" and a "high degree of alertness in spotting the stolen property" in a case of from interstate shipment; congratulations on his tenth anniversary with the Bureau; further appreciation of good work; and news of a temporary promotion.
