French painter (1789-1863) known for his battle scenes. ALS in French, signed “H. Vernet,” one page both sides, 8 x 10.25, May 22, 1835. Handwritten letter to "Monsieur Ziegler, Peintre d'Histoire" in Paris. A curious epistle on Thiers, who forgot to reply to Delaroche. In small part (translated): "The Arts, which he dealt with rightly or wrongly in other times, must seem to him of very little interest since the care of a great empire rests on his eloquence." In very good condition, with overall creasing, staining, and two areas of repaired paper loss.
