Description

United States Army general (1898-1975) who commanded the force defending Bastogne, Belgium, during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, most famous for his brief reply to a German surrender ultimatum: 'Nuts.' Commemorative airmail cover with a cachet honoring the laying of the Bastogne memorial cornerstone and a special flight of earth from Belgium's Ardennes Forest to America, signed in fountain pen, "A. C. McAuliffe, Maj. Gen. U.S. Army." In fine condition.
