Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Pennsylvania (1739-1813) who served as the first president of the Philadelphia Bank. Manuscript DS, signed “I agree, G. Clymer,” one page both sides, 7.25 x 9, November 2, 1789. Document concerning a real estate transaction, in part: "Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Meridith as well in performance of certain covenants and agreements subsisting between John Maxwell Nesbitt and myself as also for and in consideration of the sum of Five pounds lawfull money of Pennsylvania…I do hereby acknowledge and myself therewith fully satisfied contended and paid Have granted…sixteen warrants of survey…for the quantity of three hundred acres of Land." A manuscript endorsement has been written vertically at the conclusion, signed by Samuel Meredith, in part: "If George Clymer Esq., to whom I have written should agree to the within deed poll then it is to be binding, but not otherwise, as I think it would be best to have a plan drawn & each party to take the lands that lay most convenient to each other." Endorsed below by Clymer to approve of the agreement. In very good condition, with some edge and corner paper loss, and partial splits to folds.
